The Thursday May 15th Space Policy track focuses on space policy events between the 2013 ISDC and the 2014 ISDC in which the NSS Policy Committee took a formal position or played a major role. Its purpose is to inform NSS members and the larger space community about the activities of the NSS Policy Committee.
The Friday May 16th Space Policy track shines a spotlight on areas of space policy that the NSS Policy Committee leadership believes will be among the most important in coming years. Two talks by Dr. Paul Werbos and John Mankins outline policy and other issues related to making Space Solar Power a reality. Three talks focus on lowering the cost of access to space. Charles Miller's talk reviews the motivation and general policy issues in this area. Two DARPA program managers present on some of the most exciting programs directed toward lowering the cost of access to space: Mitchell Burnside Clapp discusses the "Air Launch Assist Space Access" program, and Jess Sponable presents "The Experimental Spaceplane XS-1." The day is closed out with a presentation by Rosanna Sattler, Esq., "Update on Space Property Law."
